Nissan offers more than just repairs in our local car service center here in Maine. In fact, starting back in 1992, following a specific stint of civic unrest in Los Angeles, the Nissan Foundation was created to provide assets and provisions for the area and to promote a greater sense of America's diverse cultural heritage and an appreciation, thereof.

Since its inception, the Foundation has evolved not only in the initiatives it supports, but also in its geographic scope, providing support for various nonprofit organizations across the U.S.

And, just recently, the Nissan Foundation awarded a total of $689,000 in grants to 29 nonprofits which offer educational programs to promote America's unique cultural heritage.

The various organizations, for this year, were located in California, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Tennessee and Texas and offer such programs as: anti-prejudice training courses, cultural heritage museum programming and various arts and sports programs which involve students with other cultures, as well.

"Our grantees are looking for solutions to important societal issues or offering opportunities to learn from the experiences of people whose lives may be different from our own," says Scott Becker, president of the Nissan Foundation.1

The 29 chosen groups were narrowed down from 150 original applicants. Each was required to write a letter of intent to be considered for an award grant, and the ones whose proposals were best suited to match the Nissan Foundation's overall mission were chosen, in the end.

Although Maine isn't on the list, we know that Sanford area folks tends to be hands on and involved in our communities. So we figured this was a good topic for today's Marc Motors Nissan blog.

And, if you'd like more information about the Nissan brand, in general, including the plethora of great new Nissan models we have available or need to swing by for auto service, you can find us here on Main Street in Sanford, ME, anytime.
