Fuel economy
The Nissan Altima has a long tradition of stretching a gallon of gas without giving buyers the time-consuming challenges of charging a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The base-level 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with standard all-wheel drive impressed the EPA enough to get an estimate of 27 MPG in urban areas and 39 MPG on the highway. If you want the extra traction of all-wheel drive, you'll still still do extremely well with 26 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on Saco, ME highways. The experts at Car and Driver did even better in a real-life test with the all-wheel drive Altima getting a remarkable 41 MPG on the highway.
